Ontario Provincial Police have launched a three-week enforcement campaign targeting unsafe commercial vehicles, according to CDLLife on Oct. 13.

The OPP West Region operation, called Project Safe Haul, runs from October 13 through November 1, 2026. Officers will conduct high-visibility enforcement, checking commercial vehicles for defects or violations involving brakes, tires, steering components, cargo securement, and driver compliance.

The operation pairs inspections with education for drivers and carriers, and police are urging fleets to make sure vehicles are properly maintained, required inspections are completed, and drivers are following all applicable safety regulations before traveling on Ontario highways.

Staff Sergeant Lynn McNichol of West Region Traffic and Marine said officers will work with industry partners to identify safety concerns, ensure compliance, and remove unsafe vehicles from Ontario roads, with a goal of safer highways for everyone.

Drivers crossing into western Ontario over the next three weeks should expect inspection activity — a thorough pre-trip and up-to-date paperwork are the cheapest way through it.
