About CDLWire

Trucking news for the people who live it — written for CDL holders, not boardrooms.

CDLWire is a daily trucking news site. A morning run is scheduled every day at 7 AM Central: we research the last day and a half of trucking news and publish the stories that matter to drivers and small fleets — carrier shutdowns and fraud, driver pay, border and customs, storms and road conditions, diesel prices, and fuel tech. A second run at 5 PM Central publishes only when there is a material new development — a genuinely new event, or a substantive update to a published story. Either run can publish nothing at all: if no story meets the bar, the site simply doesn't change.

Each morning edition also carries The Morning Mile, a short briefing drawn from the stories published that day — a quick read you can finish in two minutes.

Where CDLWire comes from

CDLWire launched in September 2026. It is published alongside the Tri-State Area Driver Facebook community (facebook.com/chicagoland.driver) — a driver community for the Chicago-area tri-state region that dates to 2014. The community, not CDLWire itself, dates to 2014.

What CDLWire is — and isn't

CDLWire is a news digest. Our stories summarize the day's trucking news and always link to the original source, so you can read the full reporting where it was published. We don't replace the outlets we cite, and we don't pretend to have reported stories we summarized — when we write from a source, we say so, right on the page.

New automated editions carry up to seven stories, and only stories worth a driver's time. On a slow news day, we'd rather publish nothing new than pad the page.

CDLWire uses AI tools to research and draft news summaries from linked sources. A separate AI verification step checks candidate stories against those sources, and technical checks run before an edition can publish automatically. A person does not routinely review every story before publication. Readers can report errors, which we address with visible updates or corrections.

Free to read

CDLWire is free to read — no paywall, no account, no email signup required. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which as our host may see traffic and security data; we don't ask readers for accounts or email addresses, and there is no newsletter signup on the site today. How we handle the little we do collect is spelled out in our privacy notice.
