Trucker pulls fellow driver from burning rig minutes before it explodes on I-90

Ricky Sequin ran down a hill on rain-slick I-90, kicked in the windshield and got the driver out two minutes before the rig exploded.

A semi truck wreck on a rainy mountain interstate with a fellow driver running to help

Truck driver Ricky Sequin was running Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie Pass, Washington, on Tuesday morning, Sept. 29, when the tractor-trailer ahead of him lost control on the rain-slicked road — and he watched it go through the wall and burst into flames.

"He had lost control; fish tailed a couple times and then went right through the wall and immediately burst into flames," Sequin told King5 News. "I did stop. I jumped out my rig. I ran down the hill. I kicked his windshield a few times. Got him out of the truck."

Two minutes later, the truck exploded. "You know, the other tank had exposed itself and blew up in flames," Sequin said. He gave the rescued driver a rain jacket, stayed with him until other motorists stopped to help, then went back to the road to direct traffic while everyone waited for the fire department. The wrecked driver sustained only minor injuries.

"I feel like it's my duty as a human being to help," Sequin said. "I didn't even think of that. I did what I did. And I'd do it again." He added simply: "I hope somebody would do it for me."
