Florida destroys 16,960 pounds of seafood after the same load is rejected twice
Inspectors at I-95's Station 16B denied entry to a warm box truck of seafood — then recognized it the next day, frozen and re-presented as a different load.

Florida agricultural inspectors destroyed 16,960 pounds of seafood this week after stopping the same load twice in two days — the second time after it was frozen and presented as a different shipment.
According to an Oct. 1 statement from the Florida Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement (OALE), officers at Station 16B on I-95 in Yulee stopped a box truck carrying 16,960 pounds of seafood bound for Florida restaurants. Inspectors found the seafood outside the acceptable temperature range, denied the shipment entry into Florida and directed it back out of state.
The next day, inspectors spotted the same load — now frozen and presented as a different shipment. After recognizing it, officers contacted the Division of Food Safety and issued a food safety violation. The load was escorted to a landfill and destroyed so it could not reach restaurants or consumers.
"The officers' sharp attention to detail kept unsafe seafood off restaurant tables and helped protect Florida's food supply and public health," Florida OALE said.
