The National Motor Freight Traffic Association's Threat Report Portal is now fully operational after a soft launch in May, according to FreightWaves on Oct. 5.

Announced at the NMFTA's cybersecurity conference in Long Beach, California, the portal lets carriers and 3PLs anonymously share cyberattack data — tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs) plus indicators of compromise (IOCs) such as file hashes and IP addresses — so the next carrier in line can defend against the same playbook. Every report is vetted and anonymized by NMFTA staff before publication, with reviews taking as little as an hour.

About 100 organizations had registered by early June, ranging from some of the biggest shippers and 3PLs to small carriers, and NMFTA cybersecurity director Ben Wilkens said the group wants more volume. The pitch: near-miss reports matter as much as successful breaches, because a technique that failed at one carrier can still work at another that lacks the same defenses.
