More than 2,600 tickets were issued during this year's Operation Safe Driver Week, according to numbers the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance released Monday, as reported by The Trucker on Oct. 6.

Law enforcement personnel across North America interacted with 8,083 drivers during the campaign, issuing 3,968 warnings and 2,604 tickets/citations to commercial and passenger-vehicle drivers for unsafe driving. Commercial motor vehicle drivers accounted for 3,409 warnings and 1,956 citations, while passenger-vehicle drivers got 559 warnings and 648 citations. Agencies from 36 U.S. states, seven Canadian provinces, and Mexico took part.

The July 12–18 event focused on reckless, careless, and dangerous driving, which drew 83 warnings and 33 citations. Speeding was again the most frequently cited behavior — 1,003 warnings and 691 citations, with CMV drivers accounting for 772 warnings and 342 citations — and failure to wear a seat belt was another leader, with 292 warnings and 311 citations.
