Ford recalls 41,748 Super Duty trucks and Expeditions over headlight defect

A contaminated LED chip in the headlight assemblies can knock out daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams, or low beams — a FMVSS No. 108 noncompliance flagged in NHTSA's weekly commercial-vehicle recall list.

Ford is recalling 41,748 units of certain 2025-2027 Expedition and 2026 F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, and F-550 SD vehicles after NHTSA found their headlight assemblies may contain a contaminated LED chip, according to Trucks, Parts, Service on Oct. 5.

The chip can cause a loss of daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams, or low beams, putting the vehicles out of compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108. A loss of exterior lighting can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash — a hazard that matters for drivers who run the F-450 and F-550 chassis cabs in hotshot and medium-duty work.

The same NHTSA weekly list also carried two smaller recalls: General Motors is recalling 1,559 units of certain 2016-2017 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups over a roof-rail airbag inflator end cap that may detach or rupture, and Nova Bus is recalling 18 transit buses over short bike-rack mounting screws. (The list's Mack and Volvo items were already reported in the Oct. 6 edition.)
