Mack and Volvo recall 4,338 trucks over brake software and detachable bezels

NHTSA reports three recalls: 850 Mack and 392 Volvo tankers whose axle-load software can cut braking performance, plus 3,096 Mack trucks whose intake and grille bezels may detach on the road.

NHTSA is reporting three recalls covering a combined 4,338 Mack and Volvo trucks, according to TheTrucker.com on Oct. 5.

Two of the recalls hit tanker haulers. Mack is recalling 850 model-year 2026–27 Anthem and Pioneer trucks with a tanker application package (NHTSA campaign 26V-620, Mack recall SC0500): inaccurate axle-load calculations can reduce braking performance when hauling smoothbore tanker trailers. Dealers will install new software to disable the dynamic trailer-braking calculations free of charge, with owner letters expected Nov. 27. Volvo Trucks North America is recalling 392 model-year 2025–27 VNL and 2026–27 VNR trucks with the same tanker package for the same braking issue (26V-619, Volvo recall RVXX2610), with the same free software fix and Nov. 27 letters.

The third recall is the big one by volume: Mack is recalling 3,096 model-year 2026–27 Anthem and 2025–27 Pioneer trucks (26V-631, SC0501) because the intake and grille bezels may detach and become road hazards. Dealers will inspect and replace the bezels and install cable ties free of charge; owner letters go out Nov. 30, and VINs become searchable on NHTSA.gov by Oct. 8. Owners can call Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177 or Volvo Trucks at 800-528-6586.
