The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a new batch of safety recalls on Monday that includes Freightliner and Freightliner Custom Chassis trucks for a fuel-hose defect and more than 16,000 Kalmar terminal tractors under a fire risk warning, according to Trucks, Parts, Service on Oct. 19.
Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain 2022-2025 Freightliner Business Class M2, 2022-2027 FCCC XCM, FCCC XCR, 2023 Freightliner 108SD, 2024-2027 FCCC XCS and FCCC XBS vehicles equipped with certain Cummins L9 diesel engines. The remote fuel filter hoses may separate from the fitting, causing a fuel leak and an engine stall. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire, and an engine stall increases the risk of a crash. NHTSA says 2,592 units are potentially affected by the recall.
Kalmar Solutions is recalling certain 2014-2026 Ottawa T2 4X2 and 2016-2026 T2 6X4 DOT/EPA terminal tractors. The printed circuit board insulation may become damaged, resulting in a short circuit. A short circuit increases the risk of a fire even when the vehicle is parked and the ignition is in the 'Off' position. NHTSA says 16,127 units are potentially affected by the recall and has issued a "Fire Risk Warning" for those units.
The same Monday list also includes Chrysler recalling certain 2026 Ram 2500 pickup trucks — 8,329 units — for steering column control modules that can cause a loss of electronic stability control; Ford recalling certain 2025-2027 F-150 vehicles — 2,276 units — for front seats that may have been improperly secured; Ford recalling certain 2015 Transit Connect vehicles previously remedied under NHTSA recall number 25V572 — 506 units — for a rearview camera that may display a distorted, inverted, intermittent or blank image; and Motor Coach Industries recalling certain 2018-2026 buses — 683 units — for an instrument panel indicator light that may not illuminate when the hazard warning lights are on and the master run switch is in the 'Off' position.
Fleets running the listed Freightliner, FCCC or Ottawa equipment should check their VINs against the NHTSA recall list before the next dispatch.
