Cargo theft is rarer but far more expensive: Q3 incidents fell 33% to 547, losses rose to $230.1 million, and fictitious pickups now drive 1 in 4 cases

Verisk CargoNet's third-quarter analysis records 547 supply chain crime incidents across the U.S. and Canada, down 33% year over year, but estimated losses climbed 12% to $230.1 million and the average documented theft is now worth $448,456. Fictitious pickups held near last year's level at 138 incidents, lifting their share to about 25%, and four states — California, Texas, Illinois and New Jersey — still account for 57% of cases.

Ohio will downgrade every remaining non-domiciled CDL — about 3,000 of them — while a court case could reopen California's program

Ohio's BMV has already downgraded about 2,000 of 5,000 reviewed credentials and will mail 30-day downgrade letters to the rest, OTR News reports. Louisiana and Colorado have also ended their programs, seven-plus states have resumed issuing under the new rule, and Overdrive reports the D.C. Circuit could rule any day on California's bid to vacate FMCSA's noncompliance findings.

Pagosa's Piedra River fix is now a four-week job: temporary bridge needs new abutments, Wolf Creek stays shut, and Highway 84 is the lifeline

CDOT Region 5 Director Julie Constan told the Pagosa Springs Town Council Tuesday night that a drilling team is checking the river banks for concrete abutments and the temporary bridge is likely a four-week process. U.S. 160 is open from town as far as the bridge with single-lane stretches, Highway 84 south is stabilized, CO 151 may get one lane by the weekend, and the downtown reconstruction will not finish in 2026.

A $23, two-hour online CDL theory course grew fat on FMCSA's school shutdowns — now ELDT Nation faces a proposed removal of its own

Overdrive reports the provider has educated nearly 30,000 students in the last year and saw sales rise directly from the shutdown of 110 rival schools. Its representative conceded translator-app exploits are 'probably something we need to tighten up more' — and neither representative mentioned the pending removal notice FMCSA requires providers to disclose to trainees.

Democrats win both chambers of Congress — and trucking's highway bill, lawsuit fights and CDL oversight now run through new committee chairs

Democrats flipped Senate seats in six Republican states and took the House on Tuesday. Transport Topics' trucking analysis says the lame-duck session is now the last window for infrastructure, chameleon-carrier and lawsuit-abuse bills under the old leadership — and that Rick Larsen, a backer of the BUILD America 250 Act, is in line to chair House Transportation and Infrastructure.
